At Graceville an important aim of the Prep Year is to build continuities between childrens' prior experiences and their future learning and to facilitate successful transitions throughout their years at Graceville.
We build continuities through:
- Establishing positive relationships
-Our curriculum and teaching practices
-Managing transiton processes between settings
THE CURRICULUM
Based on research and best practices, our curriculum aims at providing a broadly based, integrated program that will provide foundations for success in later learning.
Our Prep curriculum provides a holistic learning framework based on active learning which includes inquiry and investigation.
LEARNING DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION
Our curriculum program delivers the Australian Curriculum. Early Literacy and Numeracy concepts are delivered in a sequenced and explicit method that opens the door to learning in all others areas of the curriculum. Teachers respond to the individual needs of young learners within this curriculum supporting a smooth transition to Year 1. Children's learning and progress is monitored and shared with parents through Portfolios of their work.
Learning experiences will help children to:
-Communicate
-Develop early literacy & numeracy skills
-Become independent thinkers & problem solvers
-Learn how to co-operate with others
-Develop physical co-ordination skills
-Listen, respond to and give directions
-Become confident at taking risks in their learning
-Make good choices
Facilities and resources at our school such as our specially designed classrooms and outdoor learning environment will support the curriculum and make Prep a fun and exciting place for children to learn.
Children attending Prep will have access to school resources and participate in school activities such as Junior Assemblies, visits to our Library, Prep to Year 3 Sports Days and celebrations such as Under 8's Week.
COHESIVE SCHOOL FAMILY
